Oman Opens Al Hazm Castle After Restoration

October 30, 2025

After a decade-long conservation effort, Oman has reopened the historic Al Hazm Castle to the public, showcasing its restored architecture and new interactive heritage exhibits. The fortress, dating back to the early 18th century, now features digital archives and guided VR tours, blending traditional preservation with cutting-edge visitor experiences.

The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism said the site will anchor a new cultural corridor linking forts and museums across Al Batinah region. Restoration specialists used original limestone and timber materials to retain authenticity, while implementing modern climate-control and lighting systems for artifact protection.

Officials expect the reopening to boost cultural tourism and provide training opportunities for young Omanis in restoration, archaeology, and heritage management — reinforcing Oman’s growing reputation as a regional leader in sustainable heritage tourism.
