India’s new higher education policy attracts global campuses

October 31, 2025

India’s higher education reforms have entered a new phase with government approval for foreign universities to operate campuses independently. Australia’s Deakin University and the UK’s University of Birmingham are among the first to apply.

Officials say the move will bring global standards to Indian education, while students benefit from diverse curricula and faculty expertise. Critics caution that affordability must remain a focus.

The reform aligns with India’s goal of increasing gross enrollment in higher education to 50% by 2035.
