Africa is accelerating investment in logistics corridors, driven by the need to strengthen trade integration and enhance regional value chains. New ports, railways, and inland freight hubs are transforming how goods move across the continent. The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) has amplified the urgency for efficient logistics networks capable of supporting rising intra-African commerce.
Countries such as Kenya, Tanzania, South Africa, and Nigeria are modernising key port facilities to handle larger vessels and reduce congestion. Upgraded terminals, digital customs systems, and expanded storage capacity are helping unlock new trade routes. These improvements are making African ports more competitive and aligned with global standards.
Rail corridors are also witnessing growth, especially in East Africa, where new lines improve connections between landlocked countries and key seaports. These logistics routes are reducing transportation time and opening new economic zones that support manufacturing and agribusiness.
In West Africa, major infrastructure investments are strengthening mineral supply chains. Efficient logistics networks are essential for exporting critical minerals and supporting new industries centred on processing and refining raw materials.
Africa’s logistics expansion is expected to accelerate further as governments prioritise trade facilitation, backed by support from development institutions and private investors.
