Southeast Asia’s Tech Manufacturing Shift

December 3, 2025

Southeast Asia is emerging as a major global hub for high‑value manufacturing as multinational firms diversify production away from traditional centres. Countries including Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia are witnessing rapid increases in investments across electronics, semiconductors, electric‑vehicle components, and data‑centre infrastructure.

Electronics manufacturing continues to lead the shift. Vietnam is expanding its role as a centre for smartphone assembly, chip packaging, and telecom equipment production. Major global technology companies are scaling operations with new factories, supplier parks, and high‑tech industrial zones. Malaysia is strengthening its semiconductor testing and assembly capabilities, attracting both US and East Asian firms.

The EV sector is also accelerating. Thailand is positioning itself as the region’s EV assembly hub, supported by targeted incentives and a rapidly expanding battery‑production ecosystem. Indonesia, backed by significant nickel reserves, is investing heavily in battery precursor materials, refining capacities, and large‑scale EV component plants.

Data‑centre growth is transforming the digital economy. Singapore remains the region’s financial and data‑processing base, but rising energy and land constraints have redirected new hyperscale investments toward Malaysia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. These markets are boosting renewable‑energy capacity to support long‑term digital infrastructure.

Regional governments are aligning policy frameworks with investor requirements through improved logistics, skilled‑workforce programs, and tax incentives. As supply‑chain diversification accelerates globally, Southeast Asia is set to play a central role in the next decade of technology‑driven manufacturing.
