Africa Expands Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Through Regional Partnerships

African Union member states have formed a coalition to develop local pharmaceutical manufacturing zones across Kenya, Egypt, and South Africa. The initiative seeks to reduce the continent’s reliance on imported medicines and strengthen supply resilience.

Industry experts predict the new hubs could create 200,000 jobs and increase access to essential generics. International development banks have pledged $2.4 billion in funding over the next five years to support infrastructure and training.
