China’s Agriculture Academy Announces Gene-Edited Rice Variety

October 29, 2025

The Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences unveiled a gene-edited rice strain designed to deliver higher yields with reduced fertilizer use. Early trials show a 12% yield increase and 30% lower nitrogen requirements.

The research aligns with Beijing’s broader goals of food security and reduced environmental impact. Scientists emphasized that the strain complies with updated biosecurity guidelines and will undergo multilocation trials in 2026.

Analysts expect the innovation to improve China’s self-sufficiency ratios while positioning its biotech research at the forefront of global agricultural science.
