India Rolls Out Climate-Smart Farming Programme Across 12 States

October 29, 2025

India’s agriculture ministry launched a climate-smart farming initiative covering 12 states to improve water efficiency and promote crop diversification. The plan introduces drought-resistant seed varieties, micro-irrigation systems, and satellite-based crop monitoring tools.

Officials say the move is critical to safeguarding smallholder incomes as erratic rainfall patterns continue to challenge production stability. The government has partnered with local cooperatives and universities to pilot the initiative before expanding nationwide.

Agricultural economists highlight the programme’s focus on soil regeneration and digital advisory systems as key steps toward ensuring long-term food security.
